Yogyakarta – University as highest education providers is always required to have lecturers as qualified teacher. Unlike a high school teacher, a lecturer is more positioned as a facilitator of student intellectual development. The problem is, new students often get caught up in former high school environment and the teachers that makes them so difficulty to perform self-development.
It is expressed by the Chairman Accounting Department University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) Ahim Abdurahim, SE., M. Si, in the midst of Accounting Students Bridging activity at UMY 2011/2012, "Improving Your Intellectual and Moral Capacity toward Prospective Accountant" which lasted from 3 December 2011 to next January 21, 2012, at the Integrated Campus UMY.
According Ahim, unlike school teachers that really engage students, lectures are better placed as a conduit of knowledge in lectures, and course facilitators. Students are required to not be focused only on what is given by the lecturer in class. Students develop their knowledge appropriately in a variety of means. "Lecturer is not everything. Logically, when college graduates are interviewed to come to work, not a lecturer who interview them. They need a much better reference than the one in the lecture "he explained.
Students are also required to be self-interest in choosing what they want to develop. Facilities of non-curricular, student groups, for example, are established only as means of giving full freedom for students to express themselves. "The University only provides the facilities, the student must have their own ideas to hold seminars, competitions, or other activities. Such soft skill to deliver them to the door of the world of work ", he explained.
One of the intellectual developments, said Ahim, enough to affect the work field is the ability to write scientifically. Writing a scientific thought can hone students to think coherently, systematically and logically. In the world of work, that sort of thing is basic skills. Plus in making accurate decisions based on data that will exist in the scientific work and the working world.
Related to work field, Ahim assesses, although the obligation of a lecturer is to teach in the classroom, support for faculty remains needed, continued the accounting practitioner. This means that the classes cannot stand on theory alone, so that students get clear image. "Students are taught by a doctor of medicine. It is impossible if a local financial expert candidates were taught by people who do not know the financial area, "he said.
Accounting Student Bridging, is a program of recognition and reinforcement of academic skills as well as soft skill to face the system and the new learning environment. In this program, the faculty will provide a number of materials for such purposes, such as the ability of scientific writing, discussions, presentations, academic ethics, as well as English.
