Yogyakarta - Nowadays public trust in Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) keeps increasing. The incerase of student intake and the achievement as the best private university all over Yogyakarta Province (DIY) by one of websites are the indicators.

That was stated by UMY rector, Ir. H. Dasron Hamid M.Sc, during the event of Syawalan and Mangayubagyo for a group of pilgrims to Mecca of UMY Big Family at UMY sportorium (sport hall and auditorium) on Monday (05/09/2011).

Dasron said that one indicator of public trust in the institution he leads was the increasing number of students accepted at UMY this year.

“This year a number of new students rise by 20%. 2,500 new students were accepted last year, and this year there are 3,000 students. The number is still relatively small compared to other Muhammadiyah universities such as Muhammadiyah University of Malang that accepts 5,000 students this year. Yet the significant percentage increase shows public trust in UMY has returned to normal after its downturn in the last few years," said Dasron.

Besides, the achievement as number one private university all over Yogyakarta and number two private university all over Indonesia based on 4 International Colleges & Universities (4icu) is another proof of increasing public trust in UMY. 4icu is the directory of international universities that includes 10,000 higher institutions and universities. The rank is based on the popularity of university websites in 200 countries. Data and information on the rank will be renewed every six month in January and July.

During the event, UMY also finances 4 employees and 4 lecturers for Umrah (lesser pilgrimage to Mecca) and releases 16 pilgrims to Mecca coming from UMY Big Family.
