University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) received visit from Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) Jogjakarta for comparative study which was opened in Senate Assembly Room, On Tuesday (22/05). The visit was received well by Joko Susilo as the precedence of UMM,   Drs. Fauzan, M.Pd as the Vice Rector 2, and Jabal  Tarik Ibrahim,  Prof. Dr. Ir. M.Si as the Head of BPSDM. As the opening, the profile video of UMM was showed. From UII, it was led by the Vice Rector II, Neni Medawati. &amp;quot;The purpose of this visit is to learn, share, so we can have idea in improving staff, especially for UII. UMM is chosen because its human resources are very big. How is the optimalization of UMM to give service to stakeholder, especially to student,&amp;quot; Neni explained.
This visit was followed by the head of division and rectorat staff. Previously, UII also visited Unisba, ITB, and ITS. According to Neni, previously, she ever served at UMM for 1 year in Economic Faculty.
Fauzan explained that every staff at UMM, must be independent both lecturer and employee. &amp;quot; There is no concept that a lecturer asks to employee to deliver something,&amp;quot; Fauzan explained. In addition, UMM also employs final year student to be part timer employee as work experience. After opening, they would visit other places such as library, ICT, etc.]]></description>

                Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD Study Program) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) with IKIP PGRIS Semarang held seminar with theme &amp;quot; Thematic Learning in Curriculum 2013&amp;quot;. The seminar was held in theater room of UMM Dome, on Monday (20/05).  
                &amp;ldquo;UMM is considered as a developing campus, so it is very appropriate to hold cooperation with campus from outside Malang. This agenda was held for fellowship between PGSD of UMM and IKIP PGRI Semarang,&amp;quot; the department secreary of PGSD UMM, Dr. Rr Eko Susetyorini, explained.
She explained, PGSD UMM has some specific subjects, such as, karawitan under Cultural Insitution (LK) and supported with complete facilities such as laboratory and multimedia. Besides, there is a uniqueness of practicum room of PGSD in which it has room design which is similar with elementary school classroom. &amp;quot; This stuff is formed to create the atmosphere like elemntary school classroom,&amp;quot; Eko said. 
        In seminar session, a source from FKIP UMM, Dra. Lise Chamisijatin, M.Pd brought theme thematic learning in Curriculum 2013. This expert of thematic learning is known as curriculum and learning trainer  who has given many trainings until national level.

Faculty of Psychology, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held a National Seminar on Giftedness with the theme &amp;ldquo;Optimalisasi Potensi Siswa Gifted&amp;rdquo; at theatre room of Dome UMM on Saturday (5/18). It presented psychologists  Prof. Dr. Conny R. Semiawan, Prof. Dr. Frieda Mangunsong, M. Ed, Psikolog, Dr. Indun Lestari Setyono, and M.Si, Ir. Zulmaini, M.Pd as the speakers.
In that opportunity, Conny gave material with a theme of Optimalization the potential of gifted students through Differentiation Curriculum. There were three main points in her discussion. First, talent and giftedness. According to her, the human ability was based on factor analysis which was determined by certain abilities such as G and S factors. S factor was acquired through various experiences and education from environment, while G factor was hereditary factor.  
&amp;ldquo;The important point is if a potential can be actualized optimally, the contribution toward each other, nation, and state will make the human life increase. As well as the ways of life of the nation,&amp;quot; she cleared. 
Second, understand the giftedness. Giftedness had several characteristics such as individuality, expediency and plural. Those characteristics could be indicated by gifted brain that focused the theory on the cognition and metacognition which could be observed that gifted children absorbed information and solved problem faster than ordinary children. Hundreds of Informatics Engineering students (TI)  gathered at the ICT Center hotspot area of Campus III, on Saturday (18/5). They joined competition based information technology which is held anually. 
This time, the competition was divided into three categories, they are Java, game, and poster. Java competition was joined by 56 participants from the III rd semester, game was joined by 18 teams from the IVth semester and poster was joined by 250 of the VIth semester students. &amp;ldquo;Total participants who join the competition are 342 students,&amp;quot; the chief of committee Ilyas Nuryasin, explained. 
The head department of TI, Eko Budi Cahyono, admitted being proud of his students who had spirit to join the competition. For him, competition is one of the ways to enhance softskill of the students because it trains the creativity and healthy competition spirit. 
&amp;ldquo;I am sure that you are good enough in mastering hardskill in IT. Now, it is time for you to enhance your softskill, so you can be the best student in the future,&amp;quot; Eko said.  
All this time,  Eko said, the graduates of TI UMM were always awaited by the world of work. Often, he got market request, although his students had not graduated yet. Responding the request, Eko always asked to wait until his students graduated and assured that his parties prepared his graduates&amp;rsquo; softskill.

Again, University of  Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) became the concern of QS World Rankings which  centered in London, England. After giving Two Stars predicate for the  largest private university in East Java last year, QS appointed  Department of Mathematics and Computing as the only educational  department that achieved the best top five departments in Indonesia.
Through QS World University Rankings by Subject 2013, it  was declared that five universities with the best of Department of  Mathematics. Besides UMM, the other universities were Institute  Technology Bandung, Gajahmada University, Airlangga University, and  University of Indonesia. UMM was the only private university with  Department of Mathematic Education not Pure Mathematic. 
The Dean of Faculty of  Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UMM, Dr. Syaifudin, MPd explained  that the accomplishing of international addmitance could not be  separated from the continuous efforts to develop scientific culture in  his department. The Department of Mathematics and Computing did not only  want to create excellent and professional mathematics teacher but also  want to create competent scientists.

The selection result of  Student Admission University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) was announced  on Thursday (5/16). It was the result from test of the 1st cohort that  lasted on last Monday. There were around 1.168 of 2.027 applicants  passed the selection. It meant, less than 60 percent of the applicants  were entitled to be UMM students for academic year 2013-2014. 
The Vice Rector I Prof Dr Bambang Widagdo, MM explained, the UMM enthusiasts  of the 1st cohort increased 12 percent comparing with the previous  year. It could be seen from the applicants of invitation line was as  much as 1.606 applicants. Added with those from the 1st cohort, the  total was 2.774 perspective students who passed the selection.
Bambang was optimistic  that the same trend also applied to the 2nd and 3rd cohorts. Moreover,  in those two cohorts, SMA students already have got the graduate  announcement or have conducted SMNPTN. &amp;quot;The high interest on invitation  line and 1st cohot showed that UMM was the  first choice for the prospective students. It is a positive trend since  the public have been able to assess the quality, not about the private  or state university anymore,&amp;quot; stated Bambang. 
Meanwhile, two of  several new programs that were opened this year have shown positive  interest. Division of Nature Lovers (Dimpa) University of  Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) became the host of the IX National Jamboree  (Jamnas) for Muhammadiyah Universities (PTM) entire Indonesia. Jamnas  that would last until May 19 was opened on Monday night (5/13).  

 The opening  ceremony was attended by the Vice Chairman of Dikti Council of PP  Muhammadiyah who is also the General Director of Dikdsamen Kemendikbud  (the Ministry of Education and Culture) Prof. Suyanto, PhD, Governor  Assistant of East Java for social welfare Edi Purwinanto, and UMM Rector  Dr Muhadjir Effendy, MAP.
Suyanto was  impressed with the unique appearance of the participants. Their clothes  tended to be disorganized and different. However, he adviced them that  their appearance should give positive impression. 

&amp;ldquo;The way of breath, dressing, and behave of Mapala  (Nature lovers) members have unique difference. Hopefully this  uniqueness of appearance is in line with the uniqueness of the  intellectual,&amp;quot; he stated. 
Moreover, Mapala should participate in paying  attention to the condition of earth, which currently it has already  tended to the global warming, by giving contribution in the maintenance.  &amp;quot;Do not be satisfied with climbing mountains only.             The Ist Period Entrance Test (PMB) of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) lasted well and safe although the location was relocated from UMM Dome to the classrooms in Gedung Kuliah Bersama I and II three days from the day, on Monday (5/13). The comittee of PMB called one by one of 2.027 test participants to announce the sudden relocation.  

&amp;ldquo;We try to announce it to all participants via mobile phone, while for all participants that cannot be called, we prepare annpouncement in all entrance gates and in front of UMM Dome,&amp;quot; the head of UPT PMB UMM, Dr. Ermanu Azizulhakim, said. 
The relocation of test, based on Vice Rector I, Prof Dr Bambang Widagdo, MM, is to anticipate fraudulent practice of the student candidates. Based on previous year experiences, it was found tutoring although it was always thwarted, &amp;quot;In classrom, it is easier to be monitored, because in every class there are only 20 people with 2 supervisors,&amp;quot; Bambang said. 

                Not only that, to anticipate tutoring, UMM also cooperates with the police to inspect every suspicious participant. The participants are not allowed to bring any equipment to the class because all stationaries have been prepared by the committee, such as, pencil, eraser, and pencil sharpener. As the result, the test committee could secure 32 test participants who were proven to bring hidden electronic equipment. At the same time, the Department of Communication Studies University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) achieved several achievements. After maintaining the accreditation of A grade (excellent), the Head of Department Nurudin was proclaimed as the best head of department (Kaprodi) in university level. He defeated 44 heads of departments in UMM which participated in the selection to celebrate the National Education Day last week. 
      Moreover, the students of communication studies also got achievements.  In Communication Week 2013 at University of Indonesia, Muhammad Zulfikar Akbar succeded to be the 2nd winner in News Feature Category after competing with ten other finalists from different campusses such as three people from University of Bunda Mulia (UBM), four people from University of Padjajaran (Unpad), and the others were from University of Computer Indonesia (Unikom) Bandung  and University of Sebelas Maret Solo. 
Previously, Deri Elfian achieved the 1st winner of the best documentary film in college student category in Malang Film Festival (Mafie 2013). He defeated hundreds participants from various universities through his film which entitled Gendang Beleq.
Nurudin stated that the achievements were regularity. It was because for his department competition was a tradition which has spreaded into the students. &amp;quot;It is reasonable since we are used to working hard and seriously but we keeps relax.
