Psychology Faculty University of Muhammadiyah all over Indonesia collaborates with Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) held a National Workshop for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for Emergency situation at Kapal Garden Hotel Sengkaling. This workshop discussed about the standardization of psychosocial treatment for natural disaster survivors. So far, there is no standard for the treatment. Zainul Anwar, S.Psi, M.Psi, the Vice Dean III of Psychology Faculty UMM said, “We are making guidance, so we’ll have the same standard”.
Furthermore, there will be further discussion about labeling for volunteers, such as basic, intermediate and advance. “Advance refers to the people who are always ready to help whenever a disaster happens”. As we know that, Indonesia is a country where disaster often happens. People who survive from disaster usually have a trauma because of it.
Psychosocial treatment is one of the ways to heal the trauma of the disaster survivors. “Those who live after facing disaster, their trauma must be healed gradually”. said Zainul when he was interviewed on Saturday (8/12).
Previously, Psychology Faculty UMM sent the best psychosocial workers to heal the trauma of people in Lombok and Palu. UMM has been contributing through Psychology Laboratory (LPT) since 1998. Moreover, the workshop was attended by all Muhammadiyah Universities all over Indonesia. (lus)
