Islamic University of Riau Learns about Higher Education Management at UMM

NUMBER of 21 people delegation from the Islamic University of Riau (UIR) Pekanbaru visited to the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Tuesday (13/9). The visit aimed to learn management of higher education, particularly around employee and law, maintenance and asset management, public administration, finance, and public relations.


UIR group leader, who was also head of the employee and the law affair UIR Dr Ardiansyah MH said that UMM status which has ‘A’ accreditation was the main consideration to chose UMM for learning management of higher education.

"Several times our rector have visited here (UMM), and we are recommended for a comparative study. Moreover, we see UMM has the remarkable business unit. So we hope could learn the management of the business unit to support learning, students and others, " said Ardiansyah who was also the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Regional Riau Province.

According to the Head of General Administration Bureau, Dr. Muslimin Machmud MSI, within the management of UMM, the business unit was the one important part in boosting academic process. "Financial factors are very important. But, there are many other things that need to be managed, repaired, so it will give special value for accreditation, "Muslimin explained.


There were 15 business units owned by UMM. All of them, Muslimin addedd, in order to sustain the academic activities at UMM. "It’s like, when Ardiansyah writes dissertation and then  the main writing must be academic," the professor of Communication Science UMM said.


Muslimin further explained about the duties, functions and workflows based on standards in which has been chosen of each unit and agency.


Meanwhile, secretary of Public Relation (PR) UMM Rina Wahyu Setyaningrum gave a presentation about the role and function of UMM PR. "There are four parts of the main task at UMM PR namely media relations, visual creativity, protocols and cooperation," Lecturer of Study Program of English said. (acs / han)
