Student Activity Unit (UKM) Football University of Muhammadiyah Malang Football Club (UMM FC) should be proud. From the total of football club in Malang, UMM FC more often to be the rival for Arema football club Malang. Arema that currently is in the highest caste of Indonesia football often used UMM football stadium for routine exercise.
UKM that established since 1992 always got glorious achievement. Since 2008, for example, UMM FC won the second winner PSSI competition Division II Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) Malang. Next year raised to Division I and won the third winner. Their achievement more brilliant in 2010 and 2011, UMM FC won competition of Division I and Main Division.
Those achievements, according to Fandi, one of it comes from Rector Cup that held by UMM. “Rector Cup helps us to find good quality generation for UMM FC,” he said when interviewed on Wednesday (26/3). Therefore he continued, every year UMM FC always learns from previous experience for the implementation of football Rector Cup to be better.
Rector Cup football was opened last Monday March 23 and competition will be continued until April 6, 2015. The opening competition was begun by Faculty of Engineering VS Faculty of Islamic Education (FAI), also Faculty of social and Political Science (FISIP) VS Faculty of Psychology. FT vs FAI also got draw result, while FISIP won the competition against Faculty of Psychology with score 8-1.
Coach of UKM UMM FC Drs Wahyu Hidayat MM added, to improve the schedule, UMM FC is also open if invited to against with any team as long as the schedule does not disturb with time for study.
“Previously, when Persiwa Wamena in ISL, they were also often practiced sparring with UMM FC. If Persiwa in Malang, they always exercise at UMM stadium and stayed at UMM Inn,” said lecture Faculty of Economy and Business (FEB). (nis/zul/hant_zuh)
