Mayor of Batu, Eddy Rumpoko in guest lecturer and audience at University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Saturday (14/3), said want to develop this city to be the city of international tourism. Not only in the field of tourism, Batu also developed organic agriculture and education.
“Since Dutch era, BAtu city has been identical with tourism city. This is that we want to raise and to be basis of development of Batu Tourism City,” said Eddy accompanied by UMM Rector, Prof Dr Muhadjir Effendy, MAP.
According to Eddy, UMM is strategic partner in helping realize Batu city in the field of tourism, organic agriculture also education.
“We are ready to cooperate with UMM because this campus is one of the best universities in Indonesia,” he said.
Rector accepted Mayor idea. According to him, UMM has facilities that are ready to support the development of Batu City.
“In the development of organic agriculture, UMM has a laboratory that can see how far the effect of pesticides, we also have the expert of nutritionist and agriculture that can help it,” said Rector.
In the field of tourism, UMM also has role in increasing the number of foreign tourist arrivals through various exchange programs in UMM, such as student from Singapore and Japan who are conducting Learning Express activity in 3-4 days in Batu, Indonesia Homestay Pogram (IHP), and the nearest is Peace Corp program from United State.
“UMM supports Batu to Go International,” said Muhadjir.
Various business units that managed by UMM, according to Rector also supported the development of Batu City in the field of tourism.
“When hotels in Batu was full, so tourist look for an inn in the middle of Batu and Malang, and UMM Inn located in the middle,” he said.
Therefore, according to Eddy, his party is ready to cooperate with UMM because UMM is assessed very attentive with the progress of Batu City. (zul/nas/t_zuh)
