University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) will open vocation education in the culinary sector. National chef Nawan Basuki was attended for delivering about possibilities and expectations which may be held by UMM in the future, Wednesday, (13/02). Nawan helped formulate the curriculum that will be used by the Vocational Education and Training Center.
In this study program, which was named Halal Asian Culinary and Halal Pastry and Baking, Nawan predicted that the implementation of this vocational education UMM would contribute greatly to supplying professional workers in the culinary field. In addition, the operation of vocational education can be a reference for other institutions
The goal was to produce professional diploma graduates, able to work well in large corporate structures. Graduates were also able to work independently. "We will teach students how to wash their hands well until packaging until good marketing," said Nawan.

Nawan continued, in addition to demanding a professional workforce, working in a company needed an education that can prepare students to understand how the company works. Moreover, Nawan hoped that students became pioneers in the culinary field. This was in accordance with the image that Malang built as a halal tourist destination.
"By making Malang as a halal tourist destination, it is necessary for workers who understand the halal concept in culinary. Halal from raw material to the manufacturing process to the presentation. With the professional workforce in this field, Malang as a halal tourist destination will be easier, "said Nawan.

Besides vocational training in the culinary field, UMM also planned to open a number of other fields of expertise. They were Design and Media schools, ICT and Electronics, Business and Management, Health and Hospitality, and Agribusiness. This expertise school will be built on a 12.5-hectare building in the Karang Ploso area, Malang Regency.
On another occasion, UMM Rector Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. said, the establishment of the Vocational Education and Training Center by UMM as a solution to the list of existing labour problems. "By participating in this program, they will be prepared to become truly skilled and marketable personnel," he concluded. (Win)
