HEAD of Management and Control Accreditation (KPPA) Office of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Dr. Ainur Rofieq Kes stated that, after previously being the only private university in Indonesia achieved a certification as an associate member of ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA), UMM was currently preparing the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Therefore, Rofiq said that, UMM continually attempted to make continuous improvement through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with several campuses abroad, and doing a report related to program run by UMM as well as the international achievement. It was revealed by Rofiq at UMM International Cooperation Workshop held in UMM Inn, Saturday (17/12).
College Cooperation of Kemenristek Higher Education Kasubdit, Purwanto Subroto PhD, who attended the event explained that, there were several programs provided by Kemenristek Higher Education to encourage the development of international cooperation for universities in Indonesia. Purwanto said firstly was the expansion of cooperation with universities. For example, sub-program
of join working group, which had been cooperating with campuses in Japan, Australia, France, China, New Zealand, Taiwan, UK, and USA.
Secondly, UMM could also join exhibition of high education in the development of network through NAFSA Association of International Educators and European Association for International Education (EAIE) so UMM could attract foreign students to Indonesia. In this case, Kemenristek Higher Education was ready to facilitate international cooperation and provided an online application permitting for foreign students to study in Indonesia. Since a few years ago, UMM also had attended several exhibitions of Indonesia Higher Education Expo (IHEE).
Higher Kemenristek also classified the university rankings in Indonesia, supported the mobility of students, as well as provided students reporting applications. "In 2017, I expect UMM has had a join degree program with a minimum of one or two courses in one of overseas campuses," Purwanto said it in his presentation.
UMM Rector, Fauzan, said in his speech, the long journey had acted by UMM related to foreign cooperation. However, these efforts did not stop. Currently, UMM was initiating international classes and mapped the scholarship scheme. The latest, on Wednesday (14/12), UMM had recently launched
the ASEAN Studies Center. "The center study will be the role of academic pillar," he explained.
Fauzan stressed, UMM was currently at the stage of mapping the potential in all fields. Rector hoped, there was no integrative thinking of each unit, particularly the study program so it produced ideas to brand UMM to be marketable campus related to ‘sales' results of its research. "DPPM can make the development of research to follow up this," said Fauzan.
Fauzan said, identification of this mapping was a strong capital to build an international cooperation. Furthermore, UMM would hold a research results festival and invite industrial people. (Ich / han)
