Research and Debate Community ofFaculty of Law, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has a mission to improve the academic quality of themembers. This what makesthe community processestogether in activities in the field of research competencies and legal debates conducted insideand outside university.
Nowadays, the Research and Debate Community senttwoteams through the selection stage at Andalas Law Competition 2018 organized by Faculty of Law of Andalas University. They were RatuJulhijah (19) a student from West Nusa Tenggara who succeeded as the 1st Winner in the Legal Opinion of 2018 Andalas Law Competition held on (16-19 / 9) in Minang.
Ratu has wonthe championship with her legal opinion relatedto the problem of geothermal mining social conflicts that occurred in the Batu Bajanjang region, Solok Regency, West Sumatra. Previously,she had sent presentation material during the selection process that had been conducted in the previous month.
Soon after that she passed the selection and was called to present the opinion in front of the jury (18/9). She expressed heropinion about the legality of the permits of PT Hitay Daya Energi and PT was seen as legally positive which did nothavea business license but had done business. Therefore, she also recommendedhigh officials to test the permits at PTUN. Thisfifth semester student ofLaw Faculty also defeated seven other finalists from various universities in Indonesia.
Ratu hadparticipated in the competition because the she wanted to be able to write about legal opinions related tothe majorshe took. Furthermore, she also claimed to be motivated by the progress of herolder siblings in participating in legal opinion competitions.
"What really motivates me is that I see the progress of my older brother, Febriansyah Ramadhan, who alwaysjoint a competitionboth writing and legal opinions. SoI was really motivated and in this competition I was also guided by him,"she said.
This competition is a new experience for Ratu in the field of writing. Previously,she had won debate competitions. One of them was the eastern regional debate competition and the debate competition of the National Constitutional Court.
Finally, she was also grateful to have celebrated the Faculty of Law of University of Muhammadiyah Malang at the national level. She hoped that in the future there would be an improvement in the academic quality of every student who jointthe Research and Debate Community. In the future,we will process together with members of the Debate and Research Community in improving the academic quality of our members."she said.
