The faculties’ safari which is a routine agenda on the second day of Students Orientation (Pesmaba) of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) became the right moment for the Rector, Prof. Muhadjir Effendi, MAP to introduce the university executive board to the 2015 freshmen from all the faculties on Tuesday (9/9).
Before introducing the board, Muhadjir explained that there are two levels of leadership in UMM, they are university leadership and faculty leadership. “In university level, the person in charge is the rector. While in the faculty level, it is the dean,” he explained. He also added that the rector’s jobs become a lot easier with the assistance of the vice rectors.
“Although my jobs become easier by the help of the vice rectors, I am the one who takes responsibility for all the things,” he smiled.
He also mentioned that beside the Vice Rector I,II,and III, there are also the other rector’s assistants, head of bureaus, head of offices and directors. “The difference is the leaders focused on the routine jobs, while the vice leaders are more flexible since they are not focusing on the routine jobs,” he informed.
Moreover, he said that it is a right decision for the freshmen choosing UMM as place for study since it is the best and biggest among 173 Muhammadiyah universites throughout Indonesia. “UMM is the perfect choice for you!” he asserted.
Meanwhile, in the one of the question-answer sessions held on the Faculty of Economy and Business Safari in UMM Dome, Adi Setiawan, one of the Management students, asked about the tution fee. “We know that UMM is famous. I is big and luxurious. However, a lot of people considered that this campus is for the rich. What about the students who came from poor family? How can they afford to study here, Sir?” he asked.
“Studying at UMM is not expensive. It is affordable, since UMM stands for Universitas Murah Meriah (Cheap and Cheerful University),” Muhadjir calmly answered, followed by crowd applause of the freshmen and the committee. He explained that the tuition fee will be worth for the quality and value that UMM offers to the students.
