THE COMMENCEMENT of the 76th graduation of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held on Saturday (30/5) at UMM Dome was participated by 1.377 graduates. It was inaugurated by the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMM and Batu Local Government and the bestowal of Anugrah Kampus Unggulan (AKU) Award by the Private Universities Coordination (Kopertis) Region VII.

It has been the eighth time since UMM sequentially received the AKU Award from 2008. In the almost simultaneous time, the Directorate of Research and Social Service (DPPM) UMM also achieve the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001: 2008. Another jackpot is the accreditation received from The National Commission on Accreditation Institution of Research and Development (KNAPP) of the Ministry of Research and Technology. All these achievements enthrone UMM as the only private university that attains the Mandiri cluster.

According to the Head of UMM Advisory Council, Prof. Dr. Malik Fadjar, M.Sc, all the achievements show that UMM is always colored by achievements and awards. Moreover, Malik argued that achievement is something that compels a person or institution to be more passionate in seizing the future.

“These achievements generate our optimism in living this life. That is why you (graduates) should also rely on your achievements to make your life more passionate. Alongside achievements, something that should be attached to yourself is character. Face the future with the achievement and character you have,” he said.

Agreed with that, the Rector of UMM, Prof. Dr Muhadjir Effendy, MAP expected that all the graduates will evince the positive image of UMM among society. He was convinced that UMM has a very good reputation assuring the graduates for not being worry to introduce their alma mater to their workplace.

He also informed that this graduation has the most participated term with approximately 1400 graduates enrolled. In his opinion, the reason behind this enormous amount of graduates is the increase in number of freshly enrolled students in past two years.

Batu Mayor Eddy Rumpoko also attended the event for both delivering a graduation speech entitled “Batu Development as International Tourism Town Based on Organic-Agriculture” and also signing the MoU between UMM and Batu town.
