UMM Rector: Muhammadiyah Potentially Becomes Social Denominator

ROAD TO MAKASSAR: UMM Rector Prof Dr Muhadjir Effendy MAP as delivering a welcoming speech in Pre-Muktamar Seminar held in BAU Hall, on Tuesday (31/3). Muktamar will be held in Makassar in next August 3rd-7th, 2015. 

The excellence of Muhammadiyah as modern organization with the biggest number of charitable units in the world is also supported by community-based movement. It was revealed in Pre-Muktamar Seminar held by University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) in BAU Hall, on Tuesday (31/3).

            General Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Board (PP) Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si explained all movements done by Muhammadiyah depended on community-based activities. “By now, we could recognize particular characteristic of Muhammadiyah in terms of health, social services, and society empowerment. These three main concerns will never live without community empowerment,” said him.

            Giving instance, he said liberation movement for orphans and poor in last 1922 which was institutionalized through “Penolong Kesengsaraan Oemoem” (PKO) was borned due to community-based movement done by Muhammadiyah.     

DAKWAH Community: Audiences in Pre-Muktamar Seminar seem serious listening to discussed topic: Muhammadiyah community-based movement. 

Confirming, UMM Rector Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP reminded that this community-based movement should not be simply neglected. He also said that Muhammadiyah should concern on specific-based communities, such as: hobbies, talents, and other non-structural communities (sports and health, red).

            “Currently, we see there were many communities emerged, such as: bicycle community, morning-exercise community, and dialysis community. We should not underestimate these communities. They can be our great strategy in a future,” said him.

      Providing several examples, Muhadjir explained by concerning on patient community, it would be very effective way to support Muhammadiyah hospitals. By embracing student-parents community throughout Indonesia, it would yield educational movement with high social impact. “By such these movement models, Muhammadiyah could become social denominator,” he added.

            Besides Haedar and Muhadjir, many Muhammadiyah experts became seminar speakers such as: Prof. Dr. Fauzan Saleh, Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, Prof. Dr. Achmad Jainuri, and Dr. Hilman Latief. By the end of seminar, Dr. Moh. Nurhakim as chief committee conveyed statements based on seminar results which later would become recommendation in 47th Muhammadiyah Conference held during August 3rd – 7th, 2015 in Makassar.

            Other Muhammadiyah Universities also hold same Pre-Muktamar Seminar. They are: University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, STIKES Aisyiyah Yogyakarta, University of Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya, University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra, University of Muhammadiyah Banda Aceh, University of Muhammadiyah Sorong, University of Muhammadiyah North Maluku, University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya, University of Muhammadiyah Prof Dr Hamka, University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta, and IKIP Muhammadiyah Maumere.
