Planning to Establish Vocational Institute, UMM is Ready to Welcome Industrial Revolution 4.0

INDUSTRY 4.0 which relies on cyber physical radically changes the way people live, work, and communicate. Robots, smart engines and Internet of Things (IoT) have been taking over human’s daily activities which they do manually.

Approximately 35% basic skills will disappear in the next ten years and be replaced by new jobs that do not exist before. Times change, however, Higher Educations should reformat and carry out fundamental transformation based on the vision of education.

The role of higher education is no longer to prepare and educate students to work in accordance with their major, instead of educate them by training them with skills and multidisciplinary literation which is needed to create new jobs by utilizing Industry 4.0.

UMM Rector, Dr.Fauzan, M.Pd when he was about the readiness of UMM facing Industry 4.0 said, “As a progressing university, University of Muhammadiyah Malang has to take a pioneering role to make sure that Industry 4.0 is able to prosper community”.

Based on the survey, there are 25 Top Indonesian CEO admits that their companies are hard to employ people who fit in companies criteria. Not many people work based on their field of study.

UMM is planning to establish Vocational Institute (IPV UMM) with tagline Creating Moment, Progressing Talent. IPV will be pioneering the advance talents and welcomes those who graduate from high schools, vocational schools, and UMM academic communities. Fauzan said, “IPV gives opportunity for anyone who wants to improve skills, gain knowledge, and attitudes according to their talents and interests. so, they will be able to take the opportunity to become the main doer in Making Indonesia 4.0 as planned by President Joko Widodo”.

Furthermore, UMM will open 5 vocational schools, they are Design and Media, ICT and Electronics, Business and Management, Health and Hospitality, and Agribusiness. A building will be built on 25 hectares area located in Karang Ploso, Malang, East Java. “If there is significant progress showed by those five vocational schools, UMM will open another field which is needed by market nowadays”.
