The Board of Women and Children Assessment and Empowerment (LP3A) of University of Muhammadyah Malang (UMM) held meeting with the theme of “Building Human Resource towards the Realization of Gender Equality, Economy Independence and the Fulfillment of Children Rights”. The meeting was held on Wednesday (27/1) at the Hall of Economy and Business Faculty (FEB) UMM.

The Head of UMM LP3A, Dra. Thathit Manon Andini, M.Hum, said that LP3A was expected to be the center of women empowerment and child protection of the marginalized community.

“We will strengthen the facilitation of training, research and publication in which related to the LP3A vision and mission,” she asserted.

Before starting the meeting, Dr. Trisakti Handayani, MSi, explained about the “Strengthening LP3A” and Dra. Nurul Asfiah, MM, explained about “Networking”.

Trisakti, in her explaination, said that LP3A needs to focus on three issues namely women, children and gender. The violence, marginalization, unequity towards women in education, economy, social and politic became the most important issues.

Moreover, Trisakti said that children education needed more attention as reflected from the phenomenon of the children who helped their parents working in their studying hours which can be said as children exploitation. “The children need protection because they are the future leaders of this country. They can’t maximalize their childhood,” she asserted.

And the last, the gender equity means that women have the same rights as what men have. (lil/han/t_rfd)
