VICTIMS of disaster must be traumatized. This trauma should be treated. So, the victims can run their normal daily life. Through Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC), Faculty of Psychology of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) would dispatch a number of volunteers to affected areas in Palu, Central Sulawesi to conduct psychosocial services.
The dean of Faculty of Psychology UMM, Muhammad Salis Yuniardi, S.Psi, M.Psi, Ph.D,Psychologist. explained that he will start sending his best students next week to provide psychosocial services to disaster victims in Palu and surrounding areas. "Currently, we have been debriefing phase. Next week, we would be ready to go with MDMC to Palu," explained Salis when interviewed on Thursday (11/10) afternoon.
Salis continued, Faculty of Psychology consistently sends its best staff to provide psychosocial services to victims of disaster and conflict. Starting from Free Aceh Movement Conflict (GAM), Poso Conflict, Aceh Tsunami and more in Lombok recently Earthquake. Volunteers have been given various competencies by Laboratory of Applied Psychology (LPT) UMM Psychosocial.
As a reward, the departure of the volunteers will be converted into scores to a number of courses. "Those who depart have the right to convert their score to Real Work Lectures (KKN) or Applied Psychology Courses. For those who have already taken the thesis, they can make Palu as the object of their research," said Salis met in his office.
The volunteers who served in Palu for three to four weeks must be prepared with various limitations in the field. Salis advised that this limitation will become a challenge and train the sensitivity of volunteers. Therefore, debriefing carried out in such a way was to prepare tough volunteers. (ard)
