Biology Department Prepares International Outcomes

Complete Facilities: Students of Biology Department utilize complete facilities to develop their competence.

Higher Education in Indonesia should provide international-based qualified and skilled outcomes. It was the result of National Symposium of Biology Education Department attended by representatives from all Muhammadiyah Universities throughout Indonesia. The symposium held in UMM today, Friday (19/3) will be continued by National Seminar of Biology Education in next day, Saturday (20/3).

            This symposium, according to Dean of Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Dr. Poncojari Wahyono, M.Kes is aimed to reinforce Biology Department based on National Standart for Higher Education (SNPT). “SNPT is higher education-based curriculum derived from competence-based curriculum (KBK) and Indonesia National Qualifications Framework (KKNI),” said Ponco.

            Through this curriculum, he added, both substance and lecturing methods would not be based on individual perception anymore. Instead, it would be adjusted to competence demand based on national profession qualification.

            Confirming this statement, a curriculum team of Directorate Belmawa Dikti Prof. Dr. Ir. Hendrawan Soetanto MRurSc explained that the use of KBKI-KKNI was indeed right preference. “It is aimed to increase quality of Indonesia higher education,” said Hendrawan.

            Moreover, this symposium, added by Chief committee Drs. Atok Miftachul Hudha, M.Pd, discussed about philosophy, procedure, and phases for KBK-KKNI-based curriculum establishment including practice for organizing documents in curriculum structure in terms of matrixes and credits load.  

            Meanwhile, the seminar themed “Peran Biologi dan Pendidikan Biologi dalam Menyiapkan Generasi Unggul dan Berdaya Saing Global” will be held in next day. The seminar will be attended by many biologists such as: Prof. Sutiman Bambang Sumitro, M.Sc, D.Sc, Prof. Dr. Muslimin Ibrahim, M.Pd, Dr. Yuni Pantiwati, M.M, M.Pd, and Dr. Abdulkadir Rahardhanto, M.Si.
