A message of Special Staff of Ministry of Transportation for UMM Graduates: Be Ready to Face Challenges in Millennial Era

There are 1.396 graduates follow the 90th graduation ceremony batch IV at University of Muhammadiyah Malang today (24/11). Prof. Wihana Kirana Jaya, Ph.D , a Special Staff for Transportation Investment and Economics of Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia delivered his scientific speech.

In his speech, Wihana urges the graduates to get ready to take a step in a competitive and risky world. “You’ll see how the real world is. So, be ready. My era is colonial, but yours is millennial”.

In this millennial era, all aspects turn into creation chances. For instance, there are many developing start-up businesses such as taxi online and e-commerce. “There were unthinkable things are coming up nowadays. You must create something new and develop your abilities”.

For the very first time, 7 students of engineering took a vow as Engineers (Ir.). UMM became the university who took the vow of engineers after University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) did.

According to the regulation of Ministry of Research and Technology Number 35, 2016 about the Implementation of Engineer Study Program gives a mandate to several universities both private and state, UMM is one of them.

UMM Rector, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd mentioned several achievements achieved by UMM. Management, Biology, and Animal Husbandry are accredited by Asean University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). Then, UMM is awarded ASEAN Energy Award for the category ASEAN Best Practices Competition for Energy Efficient Buildings. UMM is the second winner for the sub category tropical building for student dormitory. Fauzan said, “Those achievements lift up our spirits to increase our abilities. Besides, they are the proofs for the parents whose children are studying at UMM”. (lus)
