The Minister of Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Darmin Nasution attended general lecture held by the Association of the Faculty of Economics and Business of Muhammadiyah Universities (AFEBPTM) on Thursday (13/12) in UMM Dome. Darmin said, “Currently, the government is focusing on the infrastructure establishment, such as ports, airports, irrigation, and technology and communication facilities”.
Last year, the development in West Indonesia has been finished. In the end of this year, the development in Central Indonesia will be finished and East Indonesia is planned to finish next year. By establishing good infrastructures, big opportunities for trading will wide open. “The government should understand the concept, what we are going to do today and tomorrow”.
The government should provide industrial infrastructures because the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) is growing so fast. Besides, the permit must be simplified. However, human resources is an important aspect, so vocational education is needed to establish.
Darmin added that vocational education should consider the curriculums and make SMEs to get involved, but the most importantly is practice.
UMM Rector, Dr.Fauzan, M.Pd on his speech hoped that UMM Vocational Institute (IPV UMM) will be established very soon. UMM will fully contribute in industrial development in the present. However, this ides is supported by the Governor of East Java, Soekarwo.
UMM is going to open 5 vocational schools, they are Design and Media, Technology, Information, Computer, and Electronics, Business and Management, Health and Hospitality, and Agribusiness.
Those 5 IPV will be built on a 20-hectar building located in Karang Ploso, Malang. Fauzan said, “If there is a certain progress showed by those 5 IPV, UMM will open another IPV in the future”. (lus)
