Education is future investment. It is the root of the nationality problems. Based on these notions, the member the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres) Prof. Dr. H.A. Malik Fadjar, M.Sc arranged a close meeting with the Indonesian experts and practitioners of education at Senate Hearing Room (RSS) of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Monday (1/6).

Thus, all the keynote speakers are those who are experienced in educational field, either as expert or as practitioner. This forum was also held in the other universities in order to trawl innovative ideas for Education in Indonesia.

Edy Suandi explained that the education in Indonesia is only focused on the knowledge and skill aspects, ignoring the attitude aspect. As the result, we find that honesty and integrity are rare things to be possessed by our children of the nation.

“If there is a subject regarding the importance of attitude, it is only a supplementary one. It is not a surprise that our country was ever known as the most corrupted country in the world” said Edy.

On the other hand, Suyanto appraised that the education in Indonesia is still lack of inspiration. “The most important output of education is what we call ‘inspiring’. All the invention of technology born from inspiration and imagination,” he averred.

According to him, to create an inspiring environment, the concept of learning society which has total control over 21st century skills, i.e. leadership, digital literacy, communication, emotional quotient, entrepreneurship, global citizenship, problem-solving, and team-working.

Agreed with that, Muchlis Samani suggested that the education plan should be based on the prediction of the situation in the next 20 years in order to obtain the suitable result for the situation when the graduates are in charge of serving the society. Supporting the suggestion, Badhowi confirmed that to involve in the global rivalry, we cannot just rely on the students to have the 21st century skills. Teachers and lectures should adjust the learning method with the concept.

Meanwhile, Poncojari mentioned that the problem of the low level of Indonesian human quality, which is marked by the low level of human development index, life expectancy, and the high level of violation of national value can be overcome by revitalizing the education both in formal and non-formal levels. He also suggested that the Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education (Kemenritti) should be replaced with the Ministry of Higher Education Research Technology and Culture (Kemenrittibud).
