A number of Electrical Engineering students of Muhammadiyah University of Malang won 2nd place in National Competition Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) held by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Novermber (ITS) Surabaya that cooperated with Siemens Indonesia on 9-11 October. The competition was followed by 18 universities from all over Indonesia.
In this competition, UMM sent two teams. One of them reached runner-up while the other team only got the semifinals. The team won the runner up was UMM Dome team headed by Ari Deviantro and Een Hutama Putra in PLC category of Human Machine Interface (HMI). While the other team is Sciencethink UMM team, M. Fatikhun Nizam and Farid Amirullah in the category of Advance PLC.
This competition had three stages of allowance, namely the provision of regional stage, semifinal stage and final stage. To be able to compete optimally, the preparation was accompanied by Ilham Pakaya as a supervisor.
The preparation was done for two weeks with regular consultation. Uniquely, in improving its ability, the students who were in seventh semester also learnt via youtube. "Watching youtube is to increase the ability, because the different products we have. Thus, we need to equate the configuration," said Ari, one of the participants of PLC.
Ari admitted, learning via youtube was helping enough to understand Siemens products. Ilham Pakaya admitted that preparing mentally was also important in a competition.
"I always motivate them to give the best for UMM and Electrical majors. If the problem is skill, I believe that they are selected students," said Ilham who is also a lecturer of Electrical Engineering program.
The lecturer who ever delivered students to be winner of PLC in 2015 hopes to advance Electrical Engineering study program and to bring the name of UMM in other events. (ard)
