The series of celebrating the National Batik Day was held by the Cultural Institute University of Muhammadiyah Malang (LK-UMM) with various activities. With the theme, "Batik Trough Time and Space" on Friday (10/25), LK UMM invited 62 batik performers consisting of craftsmen, entrepreneurs, and start-ups to take part in Batik Marketing workshops in facing the Millennial Era.
The next day, Saturday (10/26), the activity continued with the launching of Batik Motif, collaboration with Sundari Batik and Art, which was made with typical Jodipan Colorful Village, a thematic village created by UMM Communication Sciences practicum students, and a batik motif coloring contest for children kindergarten level, and Batik Clothing Fashion Show Contest for high school students in Malang.
"Batik through time and Space means that batik is appropriate for various social groups and generations. Old and young generation, rural and urban people, traditional and modern culture, poor and rich social groups, those with high and low education, professionals and odd jobs,"explained Dr. Daroe Iswatiningsih Msi, Head of LK UMM.
LK UMM has been paying special attention to Batik. She already held similar events several times. Starting from seminars, exhibitions, batik design research motifs in East Java, and batik training. All done as a form of love and pride in the ancestral heritage. "Besides batik has philosophical values and can be a medium for the formation of national character," Daroe continued.
"LK UMM in collaboration with Sundari Batik and Art wants to add a little contribution by presenting the unique batik motifs of Jodipan Colorful Village. Not just painting houses there is also a glass bridge designed by the Faculty of Engineering, typical batik motifs of KWJ are also expected to add more attractions,"said Rahmawati Khadijah Maro, M.PEd, chairman of the 2019 Batik Festival organizer.
Fida Pangestisaidas the launching responsible person, the event will be accompanied by fasion show activities. "LK UMM invited foreign students who are the members of BIPA program - Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers - from various countries to waddle on the catwalk by wearing batik clothes designed by students of SMK 3 Malang," she said proudly.
Based on the list of names, there will be around 20 foreign students who involved in the Launching. Fashion shows featuring students from Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Azerbaijan. Visitors were also entertained by the angklung musical instrument played by UMM BIPA students from Japan, Hungary, Palestine, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Serra Leone, Thailand, and Egypt. (joh)
