Again, Study Program of Communication Science (Ikom) University of Muhammadiyah Malang achieved academic award as Indonesia Best Schools of Communications and Management in the version of Mix Magazine. This award was based on survey result along 2014 to all campuses in Indonesia that has Communication and Management school which is equal to S1 with accreditation status A. in 2013, Ikom UMM also achieved the same award.
According to secretary of Ikom Department UMM Zen Amiruddin, Mix Marketing Communication is marketing communication magazine centered in Jakarta that in every year analyzes the best S1 schools of Communication Science and marketing in Indonesia. The method that used is an interview with the stakeholders of campus, which consisted with student candidate, parents, and also human resource practitioners in various companies in Indonesia that used the service from university graduate which is to be surveyed.
From 10 campuses in Indonesia that achieved this award, said Zen UMM is the only campus in Malang achieved this award. Besides UMM, the winner of Indonesia Best School of Communications 2014 are University of Indonesia (UI) Jakarta, University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta, University of Padjadjaran (Unpad) Bandung, University of Airlangga (Uniar) Surabaya, University of Diponegoro (Undip) Semarang, University of Pasundan (Unpas) Bandung, the Highest School of Communication London School of Public Relations (LSPR) Jakarta, University of Al-Azhar Indonesia (UAI) Jakarta, and University of Islam Bandung (Unisba).
In determining this award, said Zen, there is eight variables to be assessed, there are reputation, the quality of graduate, conformity between fee with the benefit that obtained, the equality with qualified universities abroad, the facility of education, social contribution for environment, recommendation, also achievement and accomplishment that have been achieved.
Ikom Study Program UMM has three specializations; there are Public Relationship (PR), Audio Visual (AV) and Journalism. In term of academic learning, Zen explained, Ikom UMM try to give the best service with using multimedia equipment and emphasizes on conceptual competence, managerial and technical. “If in the term of Police can called excellent service,” he said.
For Zen, students are part of stakeholder that should be developed. Therefore, in addition to knowledge development and professionalism in the field of communication, he continued, Ikom UMM also optimize the relevant student activity with interest and talent in communication, such as Journalistic Photography Club (Jufoc), the Association of Communication Student (Himakom), Group of Cinematography Lover Kine Club, Public Relation (PR) Club, and Journalistic Club.(re/han/t_zuh)
