University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) keep trying to improve the quality of its educators, one of them by giving full support to the lecturers to continue their education abroad.
Recently, Rachmad K.Dwi Susilo, M.A., Ph.D, a lecturer and the Head of Sociology Department, Faculty of Social and Political Science, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) finished his study in one of the most prestigious universities in Japan, which is Hosei University. Rachmad and other 13 doctors from Hosei University graduated on March 24, 2018 in Nippon Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan.
When Rachmad was taking his undergraduate degree in Yogyakarta in 2018, he was introduced to two professors from Japan, Professor Ikeda Kanji and Aoki Takenobu, Ph.D. Then, those two professors recommended him to continue his study in Japan through Ronpaku Program from Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Ronpaku program is a scholarship offered by Japan to foreign students to finish their dissertation in a university in Japan that has been chosen by JPSS. Rachmad said, “I started my study in 2014 and graduated in 2018”.
In Hosei University, Rachmad took Social Governace Department, Faculty of Public Policy and Social Governance. His dissertation is “Sociological Study on Grassroots Conservation Movement After Reformation Era”. He did his field research in Bumiaji Village, Batu. His research is about the management of mineral water community-based. Rachmad provoked all people in that village to be stake holders. According to Rachmad, nowadays government implements Government System. In fact, every element of society must be involved in taking public policy decision and maintaining the environment.
Rachmad said, “We need to make environmental degradation goes slowly. Besides, we have to take a part in saving the environment because sociology is for people and society”.
In the future, Rachmad wants to build a society strength through amar ma’ruf nahi munkar. In his opinion, environment is determined by how good we apply amar ma’ruf in our lives. Amar ma’ruf means is go green, planting trees, disposing trash in the right place, recycling, and reducing the use of substances that can damage the ozone.
He said, “Amar ma’ruf is not enough because there are many people who exploit the environment roughly. That is why, we need nahi munkar to prevent it and make policies to save the environment”. (lus)
