Communication Studies of University of Muhammadyah Malang successfully retains the title of the Best School of Communication Management by Mix Magazine for three years in a row. This achievement is based on the result of a whole year survey of accredited “A” Communication Studies and Management in Indonesia.
After receiving the awards in Jakarta, Wednesday (16/12), Sugeng Winarno, MA, the Chief of Communication Studies, stated that he is really glad as UMM Communication Studies successfully retained the best school title. He said that Communication Studies of UMM, which was established from 1986, will keep on improving and innovating as they will have more competitors.
Sugeng stated that the communication laboratory of UMM is getting upgraded. All the tools, instruments, studio and also the room are all getting upgraded in order to support the needs of technology and communication profession. “Alhamdulillah, renovation of the laboratory is almost finished,” he asserted.
Sugeng also thanked their students as they keep showing many achievements in national level. The latest national level achievements are Public Relation Competition in UGM and Unair. They successfully compete and surpass the other well-known universities such UI, Unpad, Unair and UGM. They also previously competed on documentary film and journalistic competitions.
UMM Communication Studies have three specializations namely Public Relation (PR), Audio Visual Communication (AV), and Journalistic. Communication Studies optimizes their Students Activity Units (UKM) such as Photography Club (Jufoc), Communication Students Association (Himakon), Cinematography club (Kine Klub), Public Relation (PR) club and Journalistic Club (JC) in order to improve their students’ knowledge and professionalism in communication field.
“UMM Communication Studies is already well-known in Indonesia due its alumnus who already work in many strategic position like press media, governments, companies, and entrepreneurs,” Sugeng asserted.
Mix Marketing Magazine is a communication marketing magazine in Jakarta which discusses the best communication studies and marketing studies department of Indonesian universities every year. The method they used is interviewing the stakeholders of the university, namely the students, the parents, and all human resource practitioners in various companies in Indonesia which employ the alumnus of the surveyed universities.
Among the 10 universities which got awarded in Indonesia, UMM is the only Malang universities. Apart from UMM, the other universities which got Indonesia Besr School of Communication 2015 are University of Indonesia (UI) Jakarta, University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta, Padjajaran University (Unpad) Bandung, Airlangga University (Unair) Surabaya, Diponegoro University (Undip) Semarang, Pasundan University (Unpas) Bandung, Institute of Communication Studies London School of Public Relations (LSPR) Jakarta, University of Al-Azhar Indonesia (UAI) Jakarta, and University of Muhammadyah Yogyakarta (UMY).
