Art Lovers: UMM Will Build an Open Stage

Art and Culture Expression Night (Maksidaya) held by Culture Institution of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (LK UMM) on Friday night (27/2) proved that UMM had a great concern on art and culture appreciation. This event held in UMM Helipad became open stage for all performances from students, faculties, and staffs. It was indeed attended by Malang artists, public, and graduate’s parents who will attend graduation ceremony in next day, Saturday (28/2).

            Head of LK UMM Dr. Tri Sulistyaningsih, M.Si in her speech stated that there were various art and culture potencies owned by this nation in form of diversities: ethnics, races, and cultures. “UMM through Culture Institution holds this event to recognize art and culture potencies owned by this nation. Culture is indeed a reflection of beauty, art, and intellectual,” said Tri.

            Supporting the statement, Vice Rector II Drs. Fauzan, M.Pd explained that in a future, UMM will have great stage for student’s performances, especially in terms of art and culture. “Land 1.4 hectare behind Rectorate Building will be multifunction. It will be parking lot from morning to evening and will be student expression stage in night,” said Fauzan.

            He also appreciated this event. By the time he gave a speech, Fauzan sang a song titled “Tuhan” popularized by Bimbo. This event presented many art and culture performances such as acoustic performance from Student’s Band Association (Ikabama), a choir from Student Choir (PSM) Gita Surya, Saman Dance, Pendet Dance, and indeed fashion show from female staffs. Apart from these on-stage performances, the event also presented both painting exhibition from Student’s Activities Unit (UKM) Lentera and photography exhibition from Focus Photography.
