Head of MUI Forbids UMM Graduate Become Jobless

In front of 947 graduates and parents who fulfilled UMM Dome, Saturday (28/2), the Head of Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) Prof Dr KH Din Syamsuddin “forbids” all graduate University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) to be jobless. “Islam requires the people to work, therefore ‘haram’ for you to be unemployed,” said Din in his scientific oration in 75th graduate event UMM.

Furthermore, Din also assessed the success achieved graduate degree as a gift from Allah. While he quoted Al Qur’an, Din explained that a gift was given is a test for human, is he can be grateful to this gift or refuse and wastes it.

Therefore, Din asked to all graduates to utilize UMM reputation that increasingly to be famous nationally. Din assessed UMM already to be one best campus in Indonesia. Next, Din believed, UMM not only to be a center of academic excellence in Indonesia, but also world. “Or at least in South Asia,” said Chairman of Central Executive Muhammadiyah.  

While, The chief of Daily Advisory Board UMM Prof Dr HA Malik Fadjar MSc in his speech asked to graduates to be a graduate with character. Also he quoted from first president of Indonesia Soekarno, the member of Presidential Advisory Council said, “Certificate can be wet of rain, certificate also can be burned of fire, but strong character will not be damaged by anything.”

At the other side, UMM Rector Prof Dr Muhadjir Effendy MAP in his speech said, UMM planned to build Lecture Building (GKB) IV nine floors and parking area 1,4 hectare. It was due to number of UMM applicant was increased year to year.

“This year, until February 26, 2015, there were 1.410 people who registered. Last year, on the same date, the numbers of registrants only reached 740 people. Its mean there was significant improvement,” he said. (han/t_zuh)
