The inauguration of the Ngalam Indonesia glass bridge which connected the Jodipan and Kampung Tridi Kampung Warna.

Glass bridge which was created by two students of Civil Engineering University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Khairul Ahmad and Mahatma Aji Pangestu, brings the existence of thematic kampong, namely Tridi Village more beautiful. It is located in Kelurahan Kesatrian and Kampung Warna-Jodipan (KWJ) in Jodipan Urban Village, Malang East.

It was inaugurated on Monday (9/10). The bridge that stands on the Brantas River is also the first glass bridge in Indonesia. The design of the glass bridge named Ngalam Indonesia is entrusted to Khairul and Aji because of their experience as the champion of Indonesia Bridge Contest and Building Competition Indonesia in 2015.

Khairul and Aji started designing the bridge in January 2017. The initial step begins by reviewing the location of Jodipan and Kesatrian to find out the topography. From the results of field analysis, Khairul and Aji began designing the bridge. Then they built it in April 2017.

"We offer three forms of bridges, the first type is arc or curve, futuristic type and cable stayed type. Then UMM rector, Fauzan, approved cable stayed model because of its aesthetic aspect," said the student who once won the Indonesian Bridge Contest (KJI) in 2015.

Previously, UMM students also played an important role through the establishment of KWJ by eight UMM Communication Studies students who are members of Guys Pro Public Relations (PR) group. The birth of KWJ became the inspiration for the establishment of Tridi Village which is located across the river. Since it was inaugurated in September 2016, the two villages are always crowded with visitors.

Mayor of Malang, Mochamad Anton, admitted that he is salute to the creativity of UMM students. "With the completion of this bridge, hopefully the interest of tourism in Malang City, especially KWJ and Kampung Tridi can increase, so it can also improve the economy of the local people. Moreover, the glass bridge is the first and only one in Indonesia," he said.

The bridge that connects KWJ and Tridi village is dominated with golden yellow colour. Having length 25 meters and 1.25 meters width make the bridge is able to be used two lanes walking. It is estimated that the bridge can accommodate about 50 people.

Before the bridge was built, tourists who want to enjoy both sides of the village must climb stairs and rotate through Brantas Bridge. The emergence of Glass Bridge becomes a new facility for citizens as well as alternatives for visitors. Hopefully, in addition to facilitate access, kinship between villages was increasingly adhesive to beautify the city of Malang.

In addition, because the floor is made of glass, residents and visitors are invited to enjoy the view of the river above the bridge. Transparent glass has its own sensation like the Glass Bridge in Zhangjiajie, China. Now, the glass bridge becomes a new photo spot for netizens who often upload interesting photos on social media.
