House of Peoples’ Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia Praises UMM as the Pioneer of Energy-Saving Campus

 The House of People’s Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia Commission VII (DPR RI) had work visit to University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Wednesday (19/12). Ridwan Hisjam, the Vice Chairman of DPR RI mentioned that UMM was chosen because it is the pioneer of energy-saving campus. There are two Micro Hydro Power Plant (MHPs) owned by UMM. Meanwhile, the focus of DPR RI year 2014-2019 is about energy, research, technology, and environment. Ridwan said, “We choose to do work visit at UMM is because it is pioneering the energy saving”.

Furthermore, UMM is known as the pioneer of renewable energy (EBT). By having two MHPs, UMM was awarded Asean Energy Award for the first time in 2009.

In October 2018, by having Rusunawa (Student Apartment), UMM won the same award. UMM won for tropical building category as the second runner-up.

UMM Rector, Dr.Fauzan, M.Pd mentioned that, “MHPs are not only used as the laboratory for UMM academic community but also used by other universities as the learning source for students”.

After conducting opinion and aspiration polls, they then visited the MHPs which are located at UMM Campus III. (lus)
