Islamic Studies and Philosophy Center (PSIF) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) initiates joint lecture series in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. This joint lecture will take place in National University of Singapore (NUS), University of Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).
The Secretary of PSIF UMM Subhan Setowara explained that “Nusantara Bergerak” is the official theme of this program. The three countries are part of Malay Island. “Based on the history, Malaysia and Singapore are part of Nusantara”.
Malaysia is the first country where this course held. It is held at Gerakbudaya Hall, Petaling Jaya, Selangor on Sunday (7/10), Dr Faisal Tehrani from Academy of Alam and Tamaddun Malay (ATMA) UKM, Dr Azhar Ibrahim Alwee from Malay Studies NUS, and Dr Pradana Boy from UMM as the course presenters. Next, the class will be in UMM and NUS. There will be three presenters from each country in every lecture.
Furthermore, according to Subhan, the collaboration across the countries is important because sometimes countries in nusantara have conflicts and claim each other. “That happens because the understanding about Nusantara is lack. A way should be found in order to solve this problem. Academic way, for instance”.
This program is aimed to emerge a sense of caring from people in nusantara and develop the country where they belong. “The course will be taught in Malay, Indonesian, and English”.
Interdisciplinary topics about nusantara will be lifted up in the course, such as culture, religious tradition, literature, arts, science, politics and institution, history and sociology, economics development, ecologyl and so on which are related to the nusantara society”. (lus)
