Who says students of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) could only become a teacher for their future career? Umi Tursini,Ph.D has proven it. She is an alumnus of English department FKIP UMM who has career in market place concept. She earns up to one billion rupiahs every month by selling her products with brand Salvo. On Friday (21/9), Umi revealed, “English ability is one of the keys to run my business successful”.
At first, she started her business because her hobby was shopping by online when she took doctoral program in University of New South Wales, Australia. Then, she searched any information about market place concept and found out that there are only 2 percent of Indonesian people who uses market place. This is absolutely a great opportunity for those who want to run a business in market place. “Two percent is more than enough to make my business run well”.
E-Commerce with market place concept is a promising business. Less than two years, Umi has 3 big warehouses to store her products such as bags, shoes, and slippers. She gets 1000 to 4000 orders every day. Umi, who is also a lecturer in a private university said, “The number of internet users increases time by time. My brand is Salvo which means continuous shots in English. I hope that I will get many orders for my products”. Up to September 2018, Umi sells her products in Lazada, Tokopedia, Shoppie, Zilingo, and many others. Salvo is product number 1 in East Java and 5th Top Seller in Indonesia. Umi has 200 workers to produce bags, shoes, and slippers.
Because of her English ability, she cooperated with many CEO both in Indonesia and abroad. Umi said that actually business opportunities are widely open, but unfortunately not all people are willing to start a business. “Everyone has desire to success, but taking action is really hard.
