Vice Chairman of Muhammadiyah Regional Executive Board (PWM) East Java, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP, stated despite non-profit status, Muhammadiyah does not necessarily mean no business. Indeed, early period of Muhammadiyah formed by K.H Ahmad Dahlan was outspread through trade in various regions.
It is a message delivered by Muhadjir as giving tausyiah in Grand Opening of 2nd Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership Deliberation (PDM) Pasuruan Regency, in Bangil, Sunday (7/6). Muhadjir, Rector of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) to motivate PDM in strengthening economic affairs of local Muhammadiyah.
“In Muhammadiyah, there is familiar term which is charity efforts, meaning we should not merely concern on pure charity. Instead, there has to be business to support this such charity,” said Muhadjir.
By reinforcing the economic affairs, he convinced, Muhammadiyah could turn as independent organization. Thus, any kind of business has to be patiently managed.
Accordingly, the term patiently refers to full-strategic and well-maintained ways. “It does not mean easily give up. It takes full of fortitude, struggle, and precision. Overall, patient in business means a strategy,” informed him as citing his success in establishing many businesses to sustain UMM.
However, he also cautioned to maintain it by setting two simultaneous matters: mandate as Muhammadiyah characteristic and professionalism as business mandatory. “Good personality is not enough. Neither is great professionalism yet lack of Muhammadiyah commitment,” he added, recalling on what happened to Muhammadiyah Central Board (PP) in last 2005, which was nearly tangled on Bank case.
Muhammadiyah business has currently wide-spread. Similarly, there will be increasingly severe challenges encountered. “Hence, Muhammadiyah dakwah should be bear out by independent economy to avoid tramp mental. We have to stand on our own feet,” he notified.
Muspimda was attended by roughly 200 cadres of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah throughout Pasuruan. There were also PDM Chairman of Pasuruan Regency and Assistant II of Pasuruan Logal Government. The Further Economic Reinforcement material was delivered by Rector of University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya, Dr. dr. Sukadiono, M.M in succeeding session. (nas/t_stu)
