UNIVERSITY of Muhammadyah Malang (UMM) and Department of Education and Culture (Disdikbud) of the Government (Pemkot) of Batu formed Lesson Study Club. The Lesson Study expert from Japan, Ryo Suzuki, attended the launching at the Block Office of Batu Government, on Friday (29/1).
The team leader of Lesson Study UMM, Drs. Nur Widodo, M.Kes, said that forming this Lesson Study is a brave step of Disdikbud Batu City. “Previously, there was a socialization of this program to 400 sciences and mathematics teachers in elementary and secondary level on December 2015,” Nur Widodo said.
Besides designing Lesson Study, he added, the Disdikbud will also hold Lesson Study workshop which will take today and tomorrow, Saturday (30/1). According to him, Lesson Study is needed as we are aware of the teachers’ strategic role in the teaching learning process. “We need coaching of teacher competency which is simultaneously done through Lesson Study,” Widodo asserted.
According to Widodo, Japan has been applying this method for more than a century. That’s why they invited Ryo Suzuki, an expert of Lesson Study from Japan. “This method could be the reason of the advanced and success of Japan education. I hope that Batu City could imitate the success of Japan Lesson Study,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, Dra. Mistin, M.Pd, the Chief of Kadisdikbud Batu City, stated that there are four schools in Batu which become the Lesson Study piloting schools. The four schools are SD Negeri Junrejo 1, SD Negeri Ngaglik 1, SMP Negeri 1 and SMP PGRI Batu. “We hope that these four schools will be the pioneer and the example of the Lesson Study implementation,” Mistin asserted.
