Prof. Dr. H.A Malik Fadjar M.Sc. Members of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) mentioned the Tanwir Muhammadiyah theme in Bengkulu, February 15-17 2019, "Enlightening Religion" was appropriate with the conditions of religious people, especially for the condition of today's Muslims.
Malik thought the theme very appropriate for Muhammadiyah to reflect on and read reality in everyday life especially in the context of community life, nationhood from a religious perspective. The main if it was viewed from a Muhammadiyah perspective specifically.
Continued by the Chairman of the Daily Board of Trustees (BPH) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Thursday (7/1), Malik recounted when K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, the founder of Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah, was asked about, "What is Islam?" The answer of Kiai Dahlan, for Malik, was very simple and very basic.
"Islam is, after faith, it is humanity," said Malik when asked to give a speech at the opening of the Muhammadiyah Pre-Tanwir National Workshop at the UMM Theater Dome. Carried on the theme "Revitalizing Enlightening Religion towards Progressing Indonesia".
So, what is the basis for the consideration of Kiai Dahlan to state this? Besides explaining through the basics of the Al-Qur'an's commands through the many verses listed in it, Kiai Dahlan actualized various commands in the Qur'an through concrete actions. This was a pious charity like Malik said.
"Pious charity is a charity that is in line with a conscience. Conscience is always on the side of truth, humanity and many other good things," said Malik. Then, continued Malik, manifested by Muhammadiyah with al-Ma'un's movements or Al Ma'un's Theology. It was the terminology of religious thinking and practice.
With the surah of Al Ma'un, a number of humanitarian movements were carried out by Muhammadiyah after surpassing the age of one century. "So, in this context, Kiai Ahmad Dahlan teaches us all that the key to religion is humanity," said Malik.
Malik then quoted the words of the Prophet Muhammad, "You will not be able to meet human needs, reconcile all humanitarian issues simply with your wealth and rank. But you will be able to create a life that is prosperous with your morals, "he said.
"So sowing religious matters must be enlightening," said Malik. Likewise, he continued, in the life of Muhammadiyah. Being Muhammadiyah, he said, must be fun, exciting, and educating. Further to the empowering stage. (Win)
