BAPPENAS and UMM: Establishing PLTMH

Cooperating with University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) socialized a grant named “Pengetahuan Hijau” for Community Empowerment Service Agency (LPPM) in Universities throughout East Java, non-governmental organizations (LSM), cooperation, middle-low enterprises, and other civil organizations. This event was held in courtroom of Engineering Faculty UMM on Monday (9/2).
A staff of Bappenas, Arief Setiadi explained that the grant could be proposed by civil society having great quality of environment-based working development such as: promoting green employment whether it is agriculture, industry, tourism, or energy.
Related to cooperation with UMM, said him, it was due to the university’s fame in developing renewable energy through Micro-hydro power plant (PLTMH). PLTMH UMM was believed by Arief to be model in developing power plant facility powered by renewable energy. It would be owned, managed, and run by particular local societies.
Adding, he also told that the grant was one of Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) programs developed by Indonesia and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) America. It contained an agreement about poverty alleviation through economy development.
According to Achmad Adhitya from MCA-Indonesia, the corporation would select all of expression of interest (EOI) or a statement of interest proposed. All qualified EOI would be invited to present their project proposal in details.
In another occasion, Dean of Engineering Faculty UMM, Ir. Sudarman, MT hoped by being cooperated in this grant program, university could cover many non-governmental organizations in establishing renewable energy. Being predicted, this program could be conducted in 13 defined provinces which become the location of grant project: establishing PLTMH. (ger/han/t_stu)
