There are so many ways to reduce the use of plastic waste. One of them is by campaigning the use of tote bag or a bag made of fabric that can be used many times. The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Social Welfare Students campaign is an exemplary act.
With “Revitalizing the Movement of Literacy, Social, and Culture” theme, the group of practicum students were campaigning the anti-plastic bag through the use of fabric made bag or tote bag. From 5 until 6 September 2019, kids became this environmental care campaign target.
Different from tote bags in general, the students with “Kampung Sinau” Community gives a touch of art on the design, picture, and words. Meanwhile, for the picture, the students used a chisel technique. The words were using three languages, which are Javanese, Bahasa, and English.
Chisel technique was chosen because it was easy to be applied to the tote bag that will be panted. Not just that, the chisel technique was chosen because it eases the kids to make it. It was because the target of the activities was to involve the kids of Kampung Sinau, Cemorokandang Village, Malang.
“This activity was a movement toward our concern on the impact of plastic waste. Also to invite the community especially kids to spread the spirit of reducing the plastic waste” said Wenty as a Vice Chairman in Kampung Sinau Library, after the event. (joh)
