Collaborative Digital Libraries, INTEGRATING DIGITAL LIBRARY SYSTEM Today, the needs of a growing library materials makes the technology developers think of various ways to create technology that can facilitate the consumers of library materials to get what they want to read with ease. Along with the rapid advancement of science and technology, created what is now called the Digital Library or the digital library. Digital Library is a system that process and store data in the form of library collections and catalog in digital form.
By Mr. Mahar Faiqurrahman., S. Kom, one young lecturer from the Department of Information Engineering University of Muhammadiyah Malang this concept made an initial idea to build a system called Collaborative Digital Libraries. This system applies the concept of a digital library system that is integrated into one system, which will provide information such as data collection and catalog available in a variety of digital library systems are, to the user.
The location of the digital library are physically separated and distributed in various places, which independently can stand alone as a system. In this study developed a software prototype for Collaborative Digital Libraries.
Collaborative System for Digital Libraries developed based distributed system architecture, built from several sub-systems which vary both in terms of resources and data owned, scattered in different locations, and connected in a computer network. With the existence of a distributed system, the process of obtaining data can be done quickly. This is possible because in a distributed system, the process of a system as a whole will be divided into several processes that are specifically addressed by several sub-systems that exist, so that data processing can be performed optimally. In addition, this system is able to handle processes that can not be handled by a system only.
In particular, there is a framework (a collection of libraries in a particular programming language), which is used to build a distributed system. One of them is the Multi Agent Framework. With this framework can be built a system of Collaborative Digital Libraries, which involves more than two integrated digital library systems into one system. Another advantage is, this framework provides the basic libraries for the creation of a system that has the intelligence (Artificial intelligent).
From this prototype has been built, is expected to be one solution for data exchange mechanism between systems for a collaborative model system. <f4lcon> |
