Currently, mobile communication users are given many choices of alternative operators. Each operator offers an interesting and varied. To select the type of mobile operators of the many alternatives there are several criteria into consideration. This study wanted to know the criteria that a major factor in cellular research. The study was conducted by distributing questionnaires to students of Information Engineering University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The data were then analyzed using the method of Analytic Hierarchy Process. Based on the analysis results obtained that the main criteria for selection of mobile operators Informatics Engineering students of UMM is the factor of quality services including network availability and quality of telephone connections.

Decision making is an activity that is very often take place by human beings. Each person must make decisions all the time and with our world more completely, it will be more and more considerations underlying the decision-making (SAATY, 2008). Decision-making often was done by giving value to the individual - each alternative, such as determining the route with the smallest measure of time toward the destination. However, sometimes we can not provide a definite assessment of the scale because there is no measuring scale, for example measuring tastes, ideas, treatments, and so forth. To distinguish between objects that can be measured and intangible that can not be measured (SAATY, 2008).

One way used by a decision maker when asked to choose one among several alternatives so that based on the value of each - each alternative aan produce or order of priority ranking. An alternative that has the highest value method (AHP).

The working principle is the AHP pairwise comparison (paired comparison) (TENOMO, 2009). This comparison is made between the criteria and inter-alternative. Assessment for each - each comparison is subjective to a decision maker, allowing different values
generated by different decision makers. Because of its relatively comparing two objects. AHP method can be used on the tangible and intangible objects (SAATY, 2008). After each - each criterion and alternative uses AHP analyzed, it will produce or order of priority rating for each - each element being compared, especially in choosing a mobile operator to find out what criteria determines the user's choice.

Research carried out first to study the approach of the literature. At this stage researchers (Gita indah Marthasari ST) collected on the literature on AHP as reference material research. In this phase the researchers will collect criteria - criteria that form the basis election cellular operators by way of literature study, observation and interviews.
Then collect the 50 respondents and filling out the questionnaire to the students of informatics engineering. Then do an analysis of data from respondents using AHP method by preparing a matrix based on the comparison respondents. Then determine the priority of each matrix. Then the interpretation of the results of the analysis. Respondents of the research is a group of people who never use this type of GSM and CDMA cellular operators. <yudinho>
